GREETINGS FROM SKYWORLD: EXTENDED REMIX

According to Haudenosaunee oral tradition, Skyworld is the origin place of humanity. Skawennati imagined it as a distant, technologically advanced, peaceful planet. In She Falls For Ages (2017), this world was on the brink of collapse when Skywoman journeyed to Earth to save her people. In this artwork, her world has been saved and its inhabitants - our ancestors - wish to let us know that they survived and are still connected to us. If the artist wishes to remind us that our ancestors are looking for us, her work can also encourage us to look at them in return: we have much to learn from them.

Manif d’art would like to thank Auberge St-Antoine and the Musée de la civilization.

BIOGRAPHIE

Skawennati investigates history, the future, and change from her perspective as an urban Kanien’kehá:ka woman and as a cyberpunk avatar. She questions our relationships with technology and highlights Indigenous people in the future. Her machinimas and machinimagraphs (movies and still images made in virtual environments), textiles, fashion art, sculpture and performative works have been presented in Europe, Oceania, Asia, and North America and collected by institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada.
