Québec – Namur Artist Residency: Tania Bonardo-Pellerin & Camille Collin in Dialogue

A bridge between two cities, two worlds

What if a residency could transform not only an artist’s practice, but also the way we perceive our own territories?

This is the ambition behind the new Québec–Namur cultural exchange, led by Manif d’art – The Québec City Biennial, in partnership with the Centre culturel de Namur (CNN) and Namur Confluent Culture.

With support from the Première Ovation program, two artists — Tania Bonardo-Pellerin (Québec) and Camille Collin (Namur) — will live a cross-immersion, each working on the other side of the Atlantic.

A cultural pairing at the heart of creation

This residency stems from a clear intention: to foster artist mobility and international dialogue, while highlighting the unique vitality of local art scenes.

Québec and Namur, two twinned cities, share a common vision: to provide artists with a laboratory for experimentation that transcends borders.

“This residency is more than just a stay abroad; it is an invitation to encounter the Other through art.”

Tania Bonardo-Pellerin: soundscapes & memory of place

A multidisciplinary artist based in Québec City, Tania Bonardo-Pellerin works at the intersection of sound, drawing, and installation. Her practice, both poetic and activist, investigates the relationship between memory, materiality, and territory.

During her residency in Namur, she pursued her exploration of sensitive documentation of landscapes through sound, illustration, and found objects. Her artisanal and experimental process combines hacked electronics with field recordings.

“I create soundscapes by building installations that integrate hacked electronics with my field recordings. My approach to sound and electronics is both artisanal and experimental.”

Recipient of the Avatar Prize (2024) and the Louise Viger Prize, Tania situates her art within broader reflections on the sustainability of media and the way tools shape our perception of the world.

Camille Collin: embracing the beauty of transformation

In Québec, Belgian scenographer and visual artist Camille Collin immerses herself in the local scene. With degrees in visual arts and scenography, she has been working for a decade across theatre, visual art, and performance.

Her current research project, POURRITURE (Rot), explores the life–death–life cycle through decomposition and material transformation..

“Through these aesthetic experiences, between wonder and repulsion, I felt closest to the power of life — even in its advanced state of decay.”

Camille invites audiences to look again at what appears to be vanishing:

“Amidst what seems to be dying to the naked eye, life nevertheless emerges. Life as matter in motion, as circulation and continuity — infinite.”

Her work in Québec finds new resonance in dialogue with the local scene and territory.

Two visions, one shared desire for exploration

Despite their different approaches, the two artists share a common sensitivity:

  • Tania listens to the sonic memory of places, questioning technological materiality.
  • Camille observes the transformation of organic matter, confronting us with the strangeness of the living.

Together, they reveal the invisible — whether sonic or material. Their cross-residency fosters a fertile conversation between listening and seeing, territory and matter, memory and transformation.

A partnership for the future

This project was made possible through a strong network of partners:

  • Manif d’art – The Québec City Biennial
  • Première Ovation Program
  • Ville de Québec & Ville de Namur / Namur Confluent Culture
  • Centre culturel de Namur (CNN)

By supporting these residencies, both cities reaffirm their commitment to artist mobility, contemporary creation, and international cooperation.

An ongoing dialogue

The Québec–Namur exchange is more than a one-time project: it lays the foundation for lasting circulation of artists and ideas.

It testifies to the power of contemporary art to spark dialogue between cultures, reveal territories, and transform our perspectives.

Through this cross-residency, Manif d’art confirms its role as a connector between local and international art scenes — offering artists new ways of inhabiting and narrating the world.
