NOELLE WHARTON-AYER
L'ENGLOUTISSEMENT
2024 | Collage (digital drawing montage, silkscreen prints and photographs)
Noelle Wharton-Ayer’s works present a narrative of the living world. Above rue Saint-Joseph, banners follow the path of plants in their environment, namely the coastlines she explored last summer. As we move from one photo to the next, the plants disintegrate more and more. Their denouement is told through a series of lightboxes in front of the Centre Alyne-LeBel. These leafy characters—or what’s left of them—evolve into a new utopian universe. There, they are reborn, transformed. This is the story of a cycle, an exploration of what dies only to be reborn anew. What changes are part of a natural cycle? Which ones are caused by humans?

NOELLE WHARTON-AYER
Noelle Wharton-Ayer creates collages that combine silk-screen printing, drawing, and photography from images found on the Web and in her personal archives. These projects delve into the ways in which botany and natural environments can act as a starting point in the construction of personal and familial narratives. Her work has been presented across Québec, in Toronto, France and in Luxemburg, and is included in the collections of the Coopérative Méduse, Engramme, Atelier Imago (Moncton), York University’s Print Media Area Archive Collection (Toronto), and the St. Michael’s Printshop (St. John’s).
