___

Swiss artist Jean Tinguely was born in Fribourg in 1925 and died in Bern in 1991. He ascribed to New Realism as if its inception in 1960. A pioneer of kinetic art, he exhibited his ambitious, playfully ironic and often spectacular work around the world. His machine sculptures are usually outfitted with electric motors. Movement is often simple and the main principle is the modification of the composition. Tinguely is one of the main protagonists of kinetic art. A selection of his machine sculptures, prints and drawings from every phase of his career is housed at Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland.
