GALERIE TZARA PRESENTS :

LES RATÉS SYMPATHIQUES FONT DE L’ART

APRIL 27 TO MAY 6 / WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY

OPENING WITH AN AUCTION APRIL 27 AT 6 P.M.

Josée Turmel, Josianne Desloges, Diane Martin, Matthieu Dugal, Guillaume Dumas are just some of the journalists who lending themselves to the joys of creation. They hook up with Emmanuel Galland, Hélène Matte, Martin Bureau, Émilie Roi and other artists in the public eye who are happily donning the art critic’s hat for the occasion. Visual art too often flies under the radar of popular media. Les Ratés sympathiques font de l’art is a cultural mediation event that seeks to build bridges between journalists and artists, dismantling a bit of conventional wisdom in the process. Fifteen journalists take on the role of artists for the duration of an exhibition, creating an original artwork in the discipline of their choice: sculpture, painting, sound art, performance, photography, etc. Each journalist is associated with a Professional artist who will critique the production in that journalist’s media outlet. Shake hands and trade places… In 1998, singers and music critics traded places in a concept initiated by Sylvain Cormier, critic at Le Devoir, and Alain Chartrand, director of Coup de coeur francophone. They amiably allowed us to adapt their original idea. This time around, the minds behind the event work in media and visual arts. Catherine-Ève Gadoury is a “ratée sympathique” (friendly failure) who is part of the Radio Canada program Ça me dit de prendre le temps. Gaëlle Généreux, who recently completed an undergraduate degree in visual and media arts from Université Laval, is active in Québec City’s arts scene. During the event, journalists and artists will participate in two roundtable discussions on the creative process and arts reporting in popular media. Check our website for details.
